‘The Wolf’ In Memphis Moves Up The Dial On Monday.
Monday, June 12 is the date for the move of Audacy country “The Wolf” in Memphis
Monday, June 12 is the date for the move of Audacy country "The Wolf" in Memphis from 94.1 to 99.7. As previously reported by Inside Radio, Audacy is selling WFLP (94.1) and WTSS Buffalo (102.5) to Educational Media Foundation for $15.5 million.
In Memphis, Audacy is sacrificing the current home of hot AC "FM 100" WMC-FM (99.7) for a new den for "99.7 The Wolf."
"We’re not getting out of the country radio business. In fact, we are doubling down," Audacy Memphis Senior VP Market Manager Dan Barron said in a memo to staff when announcing plans for the move in April.
Since then, the "Moe and StyckMan" morning show posted a video on Facebook announcing the impending move. In the video, StyckMan is carrying a single box down a hallway alerting the audience to the new dial position. "We are moving just up the dial a little bit to 99.7," StyckMan says as Moe follows, struggling to carry three boxes, one of which eventually falls. "I hope there wasn't anything important in there," Moe says.
The switch in frequencies will take place at 12pm on Monday, preceded by a farewell broadcast from "FM 100."
A number of format adjustments have taken place in the Memphis market since news broke that Audacy was ditching "FM 100" in favor of keeping "The Wolf" howling.
First, Flinn Broadcasting revived CHR "Q107.5" WHBQ, returning a brand and format that was on the station for nearly two decades before its 2020 flip to classic hits. That was followed by iHeartMedia moving "101.9 Kiss FM" KWNW four ticks up the dial to 102.7, which has been the home of longtime classic rocker WEGR. With the change in dial position, iHeart also adjusted "Kiss FM" from CHR to a hot AC presentation, filling the soon-to-be format void with the forthcoming demise of "FM100."
Meanwhile in Buffalo, EMF has applied to transfer the WBKV call letters, which are now attached to its "K-Love" affiliate at 89.9, to 102.5 (WTSS). EMF plans to move the "K-Love" programming to 102.5 and place its "Air1" network on the 89.9 signal, with the new calls of WBWA. The changes are expected to occur by mid-June.
Audacy is not planning to keep the hot AC "Star 102.5" format or branding in the Buffalo market. Instead, promos on the station are pointing listeners to co-owned CHR "Kiss 98.5" WKSE.
