Tact switch is small for IoT

C&K has announced a sub-miniature J-lead surface-mount tact switch aimed at home

C&K has announced a sub-miniature J-lead surface-mount tact switch aimed at home automation and IoT devices.

Called PTS815, it is 2.5mm thick, with a 4.2 x 3.2mm footprint while retaining a relatively large actuation surface (3 x 2.2mm oval). For compatibility with production processes, the actuation surface is hard and flat.

"With PCB space at a premium within consumer electronics devices, the ultra-compact switch addresses the growing demand for high quality switch solutions for large volume manufacturing," according to the firm, which foresees use also in e-cigarettes and controls for drones, e-bikes and robot vacuum cleaners.

"With price a key driver for our customers, C&K provides an affordable solution while retaining the quality assurances they demand," said tact switch product manager Jérôme Smolinski. According to the firm's literature: "C&K has designed this switch to meet the needs of many commercial applications which do not require ultra-performance levels and instead delivers economical pricing whilst retaining rigid quality control."

The switch operates with a 0.20mm ±0.1mm tactile click feel, and there is a choice of operating force: 180g, 250g or 400g.

Durability is 100,000 cycles, except for the 250g version which is 50,000.

The single normally open contact is rated at 12V 50mA (≤100 mΩ initially) over -20 to +70°C with a bounce time of up to 10ms.

250Vac dielectric strength is specified for one minute, and insulation resistance is ≥100MΩ.

Mounting method is infra-red re-flow in accordance with IEC61760-1.
